Putin: Trump’s plan regarding Ukraine may resolve the crisis…and Russia will deal flexibly

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Friday evening that the American plan regarding the Ukrainian settlement may form the basis for a final solution, stressing that Washington has asked for flexibility from the Russian side and we are ready for that.

The president said during a meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council: “The new peace plan of US President Donald Trump may form the basis for a final settlement in Ukraine,” noting that “Moscow received a copy of the American plan through bilateral communication channels.”

He explained that the United States did not discuss the peace plan directly with Russia, due to Kiev’s opposition to it, saying: “This text was not discussed with us in detail, and I can guess the reason. I think it is one. The American administration has not yet been able to obtain the approval of the Ukrainian side, and Ukraine opposes that.”

Putin added: “I think the reason is the same: it seems that Ukraine and its European allies are still delusional about inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia on the battlefield.”

The Russian President continued: “After the Alaska talks, there was a certain pause on the American side. We know that this is due to Ukraine’s actual rejection of the peace plan proposed by President Trump, and I think that is exactly why the new version was issued, which is essentially an updated 28-point plan.”

He stressed that Russia is ready for peace talks and a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine, saying: “We, as I have repeatedly stated, are ready for peace talks and a peaceful solution to the problems. However, this requires, of course, an objective discussion of all the details of the proposed plan. We are ready for that.”

He added: “If Kiev refuses to discuss and reject President Trump’s proposals, Kiev and the European war supporters must realize that the events of Kubyansk will inevitably be repeated in other key areas on the front.”

Putin pointed out that Kiev lacks objective information about the real situation on the battlefield, which explains its refusal to seek a peaceful settlement.

He explained: “Either the leaders of Kiev lack objective information about the situation on the front, or even if they have this information, they are simply unable to evaluate it objectively.”

The Russian President said: “A very recent example of this is Kubyansk. As we remember, on November 4, that is, two weeks ago, Kiev publicly stated that the number of Russian military personnel in the city does not exceed 60 individuals. Within the next few days, as mentioned, Ukrainian forces will completely liberate the city. But I would like to inform you that even at that time, on November 4, the city of Kubyansk was almost completely under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.”

Putin also stated that the United States asked Russia to make some concessions during the discussion of the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, explaining: “During these preliminary discussions, the American side asked us to make some concessions, and show, as they said, flexibility.”

President Putin pointed out that all of Russia’s friends and partners support potential agreements between Russia and the United States regarding the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, which were discussed at the Anchorage summit.

He said: “We have briefed all our friends and partners in the Global South on all these issues, including the People’s Republic of China, India, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, South Africa, Brazil, and many other countries, including CSTO countries, of course. All our friends and partners – and I would stress this, every single one of them – have supported these potential agreements.”
