"Sharjah Chamber" Concludes its trade mission to Kenya and Uganda

Sharjah, November 23 / WAM / Yesterday, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry concluded its trade mission to Kenya and Uganda.

This visit is the tenth stop in a journey extending for a full decade in these promising markets.

The delegation was headed by His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the participation of a number of board members and chamber officials, as well as businessmen and representatives of major industrial and commercial companies. The visit witnessed a series of meetings with their counterparts in Kenya and Uganda to build new economic partnerships.

During ten years of work in East Africa, more than 250 companies from Sharjah participated in previous missions, and more than 3,500 bilateral meetings were organized, resulting in the signing of more than 80 memorandums of understanding and 120 non-oil trade deals, while small and medium-sized companies represented 65% of the participants, and succeeded in launching new investments within 10 main sectors, most notably the food industries, construction, steel, health care, logistics and information technology.

His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais stressed that the trade mission to Kenya and Uganda comes within the framework of supporting the private sector and enabling it to enter new markets, pointing out the exceptional importance of visiting Kenya in conjunction with the start of the activation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), and the Sharjah-Kenya Business Forum demonstrated a common desire to launch new investment projects, especially with Kenya’s position as an important economic center in the region.

Regarding the mission’s station in Uganda, Al Owais pointed out that the Chamber seeks to transform the increasing growth in trade exchange into tangible economic partnerships, especially in the areas of financial technology, digital services and food security.

The Sharjah-Uganda Business Forum in Kampala witnessed investment opportunities and expansion of cooperation in promising sectors, in addition to bilateral meetings and field visits to a number of economic establishments.
