Putin and Erdogan discuss by phone Washington’s peace plan for Ukraine

The Russian Presidency, the Kremlin, announced today, Monday, that President Vladimir Putin confirmed in his telephone conversations with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that US President Donald Trump’s 28-point peace plan for Ukraine may be the basis for settling the conflict in Ukraine once and for all.

The Kremlin press office stated, in a statement broadcast by the news agency “TASS” Russian: “The two sides exchanged views on the situation regarding Ukraine in the context of the United States’ proposals to settle the conflict peacefully, and Putin indicated that these proposals, which we saw in the context of the discussions that took place on the sidelines of the Russian-American summit in Alaska, would lay the foundation for a peaceful and final settlement of the crisis.”

It is noteworthy that the United States and Ukraine held consultations yesterday, Sunday, regarding Washington’s peace plan for Ukraine, and American and Ukrainian officials revealed that progress had been made Tangible in the Geneva talks aimed at ending the Russian-Ukrainian war, at a time when European criticism is mounting of the American plan, which Washington’s allies describe as “too lenient with Moscow and restrictive of Kiev’s sovereignty.”
