The Minister of Justice receives the representative of the European Union for Human Rights

Counselor Adnan Fangri, Minister of Justice, received today, Wednesday, Kaisa Ollongren, the European Union Special Representative for Human Rights, and her accompanying delegation, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, in the presence of the minister’s specialized assistants.
The Minister of Justice welcomed the European delegation, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation with the European Union in the areas of human rights protection, in a way that contributes to achieving integration between national institutions and international partners. The Minister reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Justice in supporting human rights, pointing to the expanded guarantees included in the new Criminal Procedure Code, starting with the issuance of arrest orders and travel bans because they have a direct impact on personal freedom, through regulating periods of pretrial detention and creating seven alternatives to it, all the way to guarantees of trial and execution of punishment in a manner consistent with international standards. He also explained the Ministry’s participation in preparing and discussing the articles of the law before the Egyptian Parliament.
The Minister stressed that the Egyptian state is building an integrated system to promote human rights within the framework of a comprehensive vision in which civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights are balanced with the duties arising from them.
For her part, Kaisa Ollongren expressed her aspiration for further cooperation with the Ministry of Justice in efforts to promote human rights during the coming period.
