Egypt wins a seat in the General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, announced that Egypt had won a seat in the General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), during the elections that took place today, amid international praise for the growing Egyptian role in supporting the global maritime transport system.

The Minister explained that this victory confirms Egypt’s leadership position in the maritime transport sector, and strengthens the international community’s confidence in the Egyptian efforts to develop sea lanes and ports, support maritime safety and security standards and protect The environment.

The Minister stressed that Egypt will continue to play its effective role within the organization, and to contribute to the development of international policies related to maritime navigation, ensuring the promotion of global trade and raising the efficiency of supply chains.

The Minister indicated that the Egyptian delegation participating in the International Maritime Organization elections reviewed the great elements that qualify Egypt to run for membership in the organization’s Council, especially its great importance as a leading maritime country. The delegation also reviewed what Egypt has implemented during recent years in terms of an ambitious strategy to develop and modernize existing ports and establish New ports and their role in supporting the movement of regional and international trade, especially with the presence of the most important global sea lanes there, which is the Suez Canal.
