المملكة: "Educational professional development": Strict reviews to approve the workshops… and a minimum of two hours for each workshop

The National Institute for Educational Professional Development revealed that the duration of the workshop should not be less than Schoolsfor a minimum of two hours, in accordance with the regulatory framework included in the guide for accrediting Educational professional development, which clarified the standards, controls and procedures for adopting the “workshops” activity as one of the interactive practical activities aimed at raising the efficiency of practitioners in the educational field and enhancing the exchange of knowledge and experiences between them.

The guide indicated that the workshop is a practical collaborative activity in which a group of individuals associated with common tasks, responsibilities, interests or specializations participate, with the aim of enabling them to acquire specific skills, in addition to providing a platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge.

It includes The workshop includes discussion sessions, practical activities, and knowledge presentations that contribute to enhancing constructive interaction among participants in a safe and stimulating environment led by a specialized trainer who works to guide discussions and encourage attendees to participate actively.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants are expected to develop action plans or recommendations that reflect what was learned and discussed during the workshop.

Regulatory requirements

The institute revealed that approving the workshop activity requires A number of organizational requirements, most notably: listing the justifications for implementing the workshop, including its objectives and the expected benefits for its trainees, and that it be within the implementer’s field of work or specialization, and that it belong to the pedagogical educational fields.

It is also required that the topic of the workshop be related to the implementer’s field of work, in addition to the commitment that its duration should not be less than two hours as a minimum, with the necessity of reviewing the content of the workshop in accordance with the institute’s standards.

The guide also requires adherence to the copyright protection system. Its executive regulations and amendments, and adherence to the Generative artificial intelligence for government agencies.

The institute also clarified that the workshop is approved by the school when it is implemented within it, or by the competent committee in the education administration if its implementation is at the administration level, in order to ensure the unity of procedures and the quality of implementation.

The guide reviewed the series of procedures approved to implement the workshop activity, which begins before implementation by submitting the application through the competent authority via the direct manager, followed by the receipt of the application by the implementer, then submitting a plan. The workshop will be sent to the official body, to then be examined and reviewed by the Excellence Committee, or by the competent committee in the Education Administration when implementing the workshop at the management level.

During implementation, the body approves the plan after the official approval of the direct manager, then the implementer submits the executive report to the competent body.

After implementation, the procedures are completed by officially approving the workshop by the body through the direct manager, with an emphasis that professional development points are counted. It is included in the account of the beneficiary and the implementer in accordance with the approved systems.

Accreditation Standards

On the professional side, the Institute reviewed the standards for accrediting the workshop activity, which include eight main standards under which twenty sub-standards fall, distributed into precise relative weights. The title standard was assigned a weight of 5%, and includes one sub-standard that requires the title to express the purpose of the workshop.

As for the goals standard, a weight of 5% was assigned to it with three. Sub-criteria include: formulating the objectives in a way that clarifies the expected outcomes, their connection to the educational field, and their logical sequence according to the workshop’s axes.

The implementation plan standard includes four sub-criteria with a weight of 15%, which include identifying the appropriate target group, arranging the activities in a logical and organized way, determining the total time for the workshop, and determining the necessary materials and worksheets.

While the content standard includes five sub-criteria with a weight of 20%, which include the connection of the content to the educational field, and appropriateness of the language. The target standard, its suitability to the time distribution, its connection to the workshop objectives, and its freedom from intellectual violations and scientific and linguistic errors.

The activities standard also includes three sub-criteria with a weight of 20%, which require encouraging participation and interaction among trainees, distributing time on the activities appropriately, and clarifying the procedures and instructions for each activity.

The evaluation standard comes with a weight of 10% through two sub-criteria, which require the availability of evaluation tools. For the workshop, and the evaluation tools are appropriate for its content.

This is followed by the workshop outcomes standard, with a weight of 15%, and includes one sub-standard that requires the existence of a clear mechanism for documenting the outputs and recommendations, such as grading working papers.

As for the references standard, a weight of 10% was assigned to it and includes documenting references in the scientific manner according to the APA methodology in its latest edition, within the text and in the reference list.
