Head of Advisors Group "C4LMPact": The UAE leads an international partnership to employ artificial intelligence in Tamkeen "Small farmers"

Abu Dhabi, 9 December / WAM / Dr. Agnes Kalibata, founder and chair of the “C4LMPact” group of consultants in Rwanda, during her participation in the launch of the “Artificial Intelligence System for the Global Agricultural Sector” platform in Abu Dhabi yesterday, stressed the importance of the UAE’s pivotal role in supporting the use of artificial intelligence technologies to develop the agricultural sector globally, praising the partnership led by the UAE with the Gates Foundation and a number of international partners to enable “small farmers” to access agricultural information through advanced digital tools.

The “Artificial Intelligence System for the Global Agricultural Sector in Abu Dhabi” is an innovative platform based on a cooperation network that includes the Office of International Affairs in the Presidential Office, the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence, New York University Abu Dhabi, and the “AI71” company, in addition to a number of major international partners, including the Gates Foundation, the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and the World Bank.

Kalibata said, in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the UAE’s investments in scientific research, language design, and modern technologies reflect a clear vision of harnessing innovation to serve small farmers, especially in countries that suffer from limited access to agricultural guidance and information, noting that these initiatives open new horizons for farmers in Africa and other regions of the world.

She added that the partnerships led by the UAE represent an opportunity to build on existing government efforts on the African continent, and on the large investments made by international institutions such as Gates, in addition to benefiting from the experience that the UAE has accumulated in the fields of innovation and technology, which contributes to enabling the poorest communities to improve their food security and enhance their ability to access information.

She stressed that the artificial intelligence ecosystem supported by the UAE focuses on inclusivity, by ensuring women, youth and less fortunate groups have access to agricultural knowledge, thus enhancing their role in achieving sustainable development.

She pointed out that the launch of this ecosystem coincides with academic partnerships aimed at building agricultural research and extension capabilities, allowing the scientific foundations of artificial intelligence technologies to be explained to farmers, and enhancing their confidence in the digital solutions provided to them.

Kalibata pointed out that the current momentum is due to the outcomes of the COP28 Conference of the Parties, which was hosted by the UAE, where ideas for developing agriculture as a tool for transformation were presented at that time, stressing that what the current stage is witnessing reflects the UAE’s commitment to transforming those visions into practical initiatives that contribute to creating a real transformation in the global agricultural sector.
