The UAE celebrates International Human Rights Day

Abu Dhabi, December 10 / WAM / The UAE celebrates International Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10 of each year, continuing its outstanding achievements in developing and promoting civil, political, economic, cultural and social human rights for all segments of society.
The UAE is moving forward in developing its legislative and regulatory systems, and harnessing its various development plans, programs and policies, in order to care for human rights, guarantee his right to live in dignity and prosperity, respect his humanity as protected by the Constitution and the law, and build a society based on justice, tolerance and openness within the system of values on which its society is based.
The UAE is proud to have served as a member of the Human Rights Council for three terms, and has also announced its candidacy to serve as a member of the Council for the period 2028-2030, out of belief in the important and pivotal role that the Council plays in promoting and protecting human rights at the global level.
The UAE has an interconnected and integrated system of national policies and strategies that seek to promote and ensure the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the “National Plan on Women, Peace and Security,” the “National Policy for the Elderly,” the “Gender Balance Strategy 2026,” the “National Women’s Empowerment Policy 2031,” the “National Immunizations Policy,” the “National Family Policy,” the “Family Protection Policy,” and the “National Food Security Strategy.” 2051,” and “UAE Centennial 2071,” which constitutes a long-term government work program.
The UAE has launched broad initiatives to consolidate the worker protection system and guarantee their rights in a balanced manner with the rights of employers, the most important of which are the labor benefits insurance system, the unemployment insurance system, the savings system, the wage protection system, and the health insurance system.
Since the beginning of last year, the UAE has begun implementing amendments to the federal law regarding the regulation of labor relations, which contribute to accelerating the resolution of labor complaints referred to the judiciary.
The UAE has not neglected to protect the rights of domestic workers and enhance them with many legislations and laws, such as Federal Decree Law No. 9 of 2022, which guaranteed a long list of rights and privileges for this category, just as it guaranteed the rights of employers.
The UAE is the first country in the region to implement the noon work ban, which prevents workers from working from 12:30 until 3 p.m. in open spaces and under the sun, during the period from June 15 to September 15 of each year.
Protecting and promoting the rights of women and children is a top priority in the UAE, whose umbrella of care covers all family health, educational, recreational and orthodontic affairs, and everything that provides them with opportunities to enjoy a decent life and a better future.
The UAE has created the Ministry of Family, whose competencies include implementing initiatives and programs necessary to protect the family and its members from violence, and proposing, preparing and implementing policies, strategies and legislation related to the care, protection and well-being of children, and securing their social, psychological, educational, health and pedagogical rights.
The UAE issued a national policy to promote women’s health, and also issued a ministerial decision stipulating the necessity of allocating at least one seat for women on the boards of directors of private joint-stock companies in the country, after the end of the term of the current boards.
