Opening of the Sustainability Village in Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, to enhance environmental protection

Dubai, December 10 / WAM / The Sustainability Village was opened in Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai. It is an educational and interactive initiative aimed at raising environmental awareness and encouraging community members and visitors to adopt sustainable practices that contribute to protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity in the UAE, as part of national efforts to enhance environmental security and develop innovative solutions that support the sustainability of resources.

The village invited its visitors to undergo a comprehensive knowledge experience, starting with learning about the vital role of pollinators by visiting the beehive in Madinat Jumeirah, all the way to learning about hydroponic farming systems that rely on techniques that reduce resource consumption and highlight the importance of integrating sustainable agricultural practices within urban environments.

The village also showcases efforts to protect marine life in the country, especially the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project, which has been operating since 2004 and has contributed to saving and rehabilitating more than 2,320 turtles and releasing them into the Arabian Gulf.

Efforts also include coral reef restoration programs, where about 1,400 coral pieces are cared for in specialized nurseries, in addition to hundreds of mature pieces being transported to the sea.

The village allows visitors to learn about initiatives to reduce waste and promote the circular economy through plastic recycling workshops, presented within a dedicated recycling center and in cooperation with a climate technology startup based in the UAE.
