Advanced international workshop on gastrointestinal endoscopy and artificial intelligence at Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital

The General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes continues its constant endeavor to raise the efficiency of medical staff and provide the latest therapeutic technologies in its units, in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, by emphasizing the importance of scientific and medical research, which is an essential pillar for the development of the health system, and a major driver for the innovation of modern diagnostic and treatment techniques, which leads to radically improving health care outcomes.
Within the framework of international scientific cooperation and the exchange of advanced medical expertise, Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital successfully hosted a workshop. An advanced course on gastrointestinal endoscopy and third vacuum endoscopy, over the course of two days, December 7 and 8, 2025, under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes.
The workshop witnessed confirmation of the depth of bilateral relations between Egypt and China in the health and scientific field, represented by the presence of Lu Chun Sheng Minister Counselor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Egypt, in the presence of Dr. Nagham Abed, Vice President of the Authority for Scientific and Applied Research, on behalf of the Chairman of the Authority, Dr. Mustafa Al-Qadi, Director General of Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital, and Dr. Mohamed Saleh, Dean of the National Institute of Digestive System and Liver.
Dr. Mohamed Mostafa Abdel Ghaffar, Chairman of the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, stated that this workshop comes within the framework of supporting joint cooperation between Egyptian and Chinese expertise, and one of the direct results of the minister’s decision to send missions to train doctors abroad, for the first time in the medical fields, and not limit the missions to administrative aspects, as Egyptian doctors have previously trained at the hands of this elite of Chinese experts in China, through training missions. And scientific studies that the Authority recently sent abroad for its doctors and researchers abroad to study the latest findings of modern medicine. These activities are a prominent step towards strengthening Egypt’s position globally in the field of advanced endoscopy training, and an affirmation of its ability to organize scientific events with international standards.
This workshop witnessed the implementation of delicate and complex cases, and the provision of advanced practical training, which confirms that the Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital is one One of the highest units in the world in this field, the workshop focused on presenting and displaying the latest technology in the field of the digestive system and endoscopy, such as techniques for diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal tumors, the role of artificial intelligence techniques in enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of endoscopic procedures, and the use of robots in advanced gastrointestinal surgeries and endoscopy.
Dr. Mustafa El-Kady, Director General of Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital, said that the workshop provided a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences between Egyptian experts from various university, military and educational hospitals and their Chinese counterparts, and the participants praised the level of organization and scientific and applied accuracy.

The workshop witnessed a high-level attendance and participation of an elite group of senior Egyptian and Chinese experts, and from the Chinese side, both Professor Li Ping, Deputy Director of Peking University Hospital, and Professor Li participated. Wang, Head of the Department of Digestive System and Endoscopy at Nanjing University, in addition to an elite group of Chinese gastrointestinal endoscopy experts, and from the Egyptian side, an elite group of gastroenterology professors at the Egyptian Authority and universities. The organization of this workshop was supervised by Dr. Mohamed Shaaban, Director of the Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit at the hospital, and the organizing committee, Dr. Ahmed Abdo Youssef, Dr. Mohamed Sharif, Dr. Ahmed Nasr Bakhit. Gastrointestinal endoscopy consultants at the Advanced Endoscopy Unit at Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital also contributed to coordination and organization, in cooperation with the General Secretariat Training Center of the Authority, headed by Dr. Ahmed Heiba, Director of the Center.
