The Desert Research Center participates in formulating the strategic framework for the post-2030 desertification convention

The Desert Research Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, participated as a representative of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the African continent in the meetings of the government working group concerned with preparing the future strategic framework for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification beyond 2030.

A statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation today stated that this participation comes at the commission of Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and under the directives of Dr. Hossam Shawky, head of the Desert Research Center and the national coordinator of the agreement, to strengthen the Egyptian role in this file. The participation came after the end of the twenty-third session of the Committee to follow up on the implementation of the agreement, which was held in Panama, where Dr. Ahmed Abdel Aty, the Egyptian executive coordinator and member of the Science and Technology Committee, was elected to represent the continent of Africa in the International Committee, along with representatives from the countries of South Africa and Ethiopia. Through virtual meetings, it will hold its next meeting at the United Nations headquarters in the German city of Bonn next March.

The new framework enhances integration between international environmental agreements, preserves environmental systems, and supports food security, while examining innovative financing mechanisms to increase the effectiveness of the agreement.
