"Purehealth" Launches a laboratory based on artificial intelligence

Abu Dhabi, December 12, 2017 – The PureHealth Group launched an artificial intelligence-based laboratory under the umbrella of its subsidiary, Purelab, to be a specialized facility for diagnosing diseases supported by artificial intelligence.
The laboratory extends over an area of 70,000 square feet, and relies on artificial intelligence to automate its operations and control quality in real time, and is integrated with a wide network of more than 140 laboratories that have approximately 50 international accreditations.
The new laboratory was inaugurated by His Excellency Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, accompanied by His Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, Shaista Asif, CEO of PureHealth Group, and Rashid Saif Al Qubaisi, Chief Operating Officer of PureHealth Group, in the presence of elite representatives of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi and Purelab.
The laboratory consists of seven floors, and is equipped with the latest equipment and capabilities that enable it to process more than 30 million samples annually. It has an advanced design that can expand the scope of its services in the future, and contains promising capabilities to meet the growing demand for advanced diagnostic capabilities in the country.
Her Excellency Dr. Fayza Al Yafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said that the opening of the Purelab laboratory represents an important step towards achieving Abu Dhabi’s vision of building a smart and integrated health system centered around the patient.
She emphasized the department’s commitment to supporting innovation and enabling high-impact investments that enhance diagnostic accuracy, accelerate care delivery, and improve health outcomes.
She explained that these facilities contribute to consolidating Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading regional destination in the field of accurate diagnosis, health care enhanced by artificial intelligence, and developing sustainable health systems.
The laboratory operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and integrates the capabilities of artificial intelligence, robotics, highly energy-efficient infrastructure, and the most advanced sample transportation and processing automation systems in the UAE.
The laboratory is designed to provide its services accurately on a large scale, as its staff consists of more than 1,300 certified clinical specialists, and it provides more than 1,800 different types of medical analyzes and examinations within many specialties, including anatomical pathology, molecular genetics, hematology, histocompatibility for organ and bone marrow transplantation, detection of infectious diseases, and environmental tests.
For his part, Arindam Haldar, CEO of Purelab, said that the laboratory offers new capabilities that consolidate the excellence of diagnostic procedures by combining automation and artificial intelligence technologies with the best clinical expertise to provide more accurate results in a faster time.
He explained that the goal of establishing the laboratory is to establish it as a major facility in the UAE, to be a national center for basic health programs, which require newborn examinations, monitoring infectious diseases, and verifying tissue compatibility in the field of organ transplantation.
He expressed PureLab’s pride, as the largest network of laboratories in the country, in setting new standards in the areas of innovation, ease of access with high quality and support for artificial intelligence, as well as achieving the UAE’s vision of enhancing a world-class health system supported by data.
One of the innovations of the new laboratory is the digital pathology platform supported by artificial intelligence, which uses full digital imaging technology for blood sample slides to convert traditional samples into high-resolution digital images, allowing rapid analysis with the help of artificial intelligence for signs of disease and abnormal indicators.
The laboratory is the main center for the Digital Pathology Initiative, supports real-time remote display of sample slides, provides virtual consultations, and enhances the speed and accuracy of clinical decision-making thanks to artificial intelligence.
It also provides comprehensive services related to routine clinical pathology, such as blood analysis, immunological analysis, serum analysis, coagulation screening, and microbiology testing, which establishes its position as the most advanced and reliable diagnostic center in the UAE.
This facility combines a wide range of sustainable features, including a fully hybrid sample transportation fleet, paperless digital reports, insulating window clings that contribute to energy savings, and solar panels on the laboratory’s roof, which is in line with the UAE’s climate neutrality strategy.
The laboratory’s design takes into account high efficiency, as it allows healthcare providers to send a wide range of tests through a unified platform, reducing the need to rely on multiple laboratories, and also includes providing services without the need to book an appointment.
