"Desert Research" Organizes a workshop on Egyptian experiences in geographical indications and the challenges of their application

The Desert Research Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation organized a specialized workshop on Egyptian experiences in the applications of geographical indications and their challenges, under the patronage of Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and in cooperation with the Academy of Scientific Research and the Fulbright Program for Specialists.
Dr. Hossam Shawky, head of the center, stressed during the opening the importance of strengthening international cooperation and transferring expertise to support the use of geographical indications in developing Egyptian products and increasing their export value.
Dr. Ross Pifer, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, participated in the workshop, who reviewed the practical applications of geographical indications and the challenges of integrating them into value chains to achieve global competitiveness for Egyptian products.
The workshop was also attended by the center’s leaders, including Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, Vice President for Research Projects and Stations, and Dr. Ghada Hegazy, Vice President for Research and Studies, along with a number of experts and specialists to present their experiences and discuss ways to expand the applications of geographical indications in the future.
