Egypt hosts the General Assembly of the African Basketball Confederation

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, met with Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, President of the International Basketball Federation, Mr. Andreas Zagklis, Secretary-General of the International Basketball Federation, and Mr. Nepal Manaf, President of the African Basketball Confederation, on the sidelines of Egypt’s hosting of the General Assembly of the African Basketball Confederation, after being absent from Egypt for many years.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi stressed that Egypt’s hosting of the General Assembly of the African Basketball Confederation after a long period of its absence from Egypt reflects the great confidence that the Egyptian state has in international sports institutions, and confirms its position as a regional and continental center for organizing and hosting major sporting events, in light of its advanced infrastructure and accumulated organizational expertise.
The Minister of Youth and Sports also discussed mechanisms for reducing international contributions and costs for hosting tournaments in Africa, Which contributes to supporting national federations and expanding the base for organizing competitions and promoting African basketball, in addition to emphasizing Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting and developing basketball on the African continent, through transferring expertise, building capabilities, and enhancing cooperation with the International Federation and the African Union, in a way that serves the future of African sports and achieves the goals of sustainable sports development.
For his part, Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, President of the International Basketball Federation, stressed that Egypt is important to Africa in basketball, especially since Egypt is the founder of all federations in Africa, stressing that Egypt will be strong with this team in the coming period.
