Fans of Iraqi Zakho are crowned with “The Best” award for fans from (FIFA)

Fans of the Iraqi Zakho Club won the FIFA Fan Award for the Year 2025, as part of (The Best) Awards for the best this year.
Zakho fans caught the world’s attention with a remarkable humanitarian initiative that preceded their team’s match against Al-Hudood Club in the Iraq Stars League Championship, which was held on May 13.
Fans threw thousands of stuffed dolls onto the field, which were collected before the start of the match, to be later donated to sick children, according to the official website of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
In a statement issued by the club, it said: “This exemplary human scene, represented by throwing children’s dolls onto the field, demonstrated noble values that were widely appreciated by the sports community in Kurdistan, Iraq and Asia.”
The statement added, “Our fans represent the main pillar of the team, and always continue to attract attention with their creative initiatives. We hope that their support for us will continue as we strive to achieve more successes.”
With this initiative, Zakho fans outperformed other candidates for the award, which was launched in 2016. It aims to honor the exceptional expression of commitment and support from a fan or group of fans, regardless of league, gender or nationality. The award can also be given to a stance or gesture that has left a clear impact on the world of football.
The three candidates for the award were chosen by a committee composed of FIFA legends and football experts. The winner was chosen through a public vote on the official FIFA website, and each voter selects his first, second, and third choices. Points are awarded to each candidate based on his ranking (five points for first place, three for second place, and one for third place), with the Best of FIFA Fans Award being given to the one with the highest point score in the voting process.
If two or more competitors are equal in number of points, the prize will be awarded to more than one solution in first place during the voting process.
