المملكة: Consultant for “Al-Youm”: Family guidance protects children from the dangers of heavy rain
Consultant in family and community medicine and allergy, Dr. Khaled Obaid Bawaked, stressed to “Al-Youm” the importance of raising the level of community awareness of the risks of Safety guidelines, as among the most prominent risks associated with rainwater are hidden holes and exposed electrical wires, which may lead to serious accidents, calling on parents to alert their children to the necessity of staying away from these sites and not approaching them under any circumstances.
Dangerous Behaviors
Bawaked pointed out that playing in rainwater is considered a dangerous behavior, because this water may carry pollutants or hidden currents that are difficult to predict. Many unfortunate accidents begin with moments of curiosity or unaccounted recklessness on the part of children, stressing the importance of avoiding children leaving homes as much as possible when heavy rain falls.
He continued: "In the event of being outside the home, it is necessary to adhere to the instructions and warnings of the competent authorities, in order to preserve lives and property. Also, in this case, safety requires heading to safe and elevated places, completely staying away from pools of water, and not trying to cross them no matter how safe the situation seems."

Dr. noted. I point out an important part that some people ignore, which is the necessity of following up on children and not leaving them without adequate supervision during or immediately after the rain, as children’s desire to go out and play increases out of curiosity, which may expose them to unexpected dangers. The consultant concluded his statement by emphasizing that safety is a shared responsibility that begins with the family and extends to society, and that spreading a culture of awareness during the rainy season may be a reason, God willing, to protect lives, calling on everyone to cooperate and adhere to preventive guidelines in order to preserve the safety of children.
