"Abu Dhabi Health" It depends "Cleveland Clinic" A center of excellence in organ transplantation

ABU DHABI, 22nd December / WAM / The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has approved Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi as a Center of Excellence in Adult Multi-Organ Transplantation, in a step that reflects the development of the organ transplantation system in the emirate, and enhances Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for world-class healthcare.
The Center of Excellence shield was presented during a ceremony attended by His Excellency Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, and Her Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department, along with Dr. Georges-Pascal Habre, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and a number of organ transplant experts.
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi stressed that this accreditation reflects the department’s commitment to facilitating patients’ access to advanced health care services in accordance with the highest international standards, noting that centers of excellence contribute to improving the quality of life of society, and enhance Abu Dhabi’s position as a global center of excellence in the health care sector, with the support of advanced infrastructure and qualified medical personnel, in addition to investment in advanced research and treatments.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s accreditation highlights the hospital’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and investment in research and education, with the goal of improving treatment outcomes for patients in Abu Dhabi and the region.
The hospital has achieved qualitative achievements in organ transplantation, including performing the first robot-assisted lung transplant in the region in 2025, the first double heart and lung transplant in the UAE in 2024, in addition to the first simultaneous liver and lung transplant in the region in 2023, the first robotic kidney transplant, and the first kidney donation between three donors and three recipients in the country. His achievements also included pioneering liver transplantation and coronary artery bypass grafting, and implementing the first robotic kidney transplant for both donor and recipient.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is the only facility in the country that includes an intensive care unit dedicated to multi-organ transplantation, in addition to the only lung transplant program, which enhances its role in developing the organ donation system through advanced technologies and multidisciplinary care.
Dr. Georges-Pascal Habre expressed his pride in this accreditation, noting that the hospital has performed more than 1,000 organ transplant operations since the launch of the program in 2017, achieving results that are comparable to or superior to the most prominent international academic medical centers, pointing out that many of these operations are the first of their kind at the level of the emirate, the state, and the region.
