Warnings of unprecedented floods and storms in areas of Southern California


On Wednesday, the US National Weather Service issued warnings of Flash floods in Los Angeles and most areas south of California which has Unprecedented storms.
A storm driven by an atmospheric phenomenon is known as "Pineapple Express Train"which is the movement of high humidity from the tropical regions of Hawaii to the West Coast, is expected to cause rainfall in the coming days equivalent to what falls in months.
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in several counties, including Los Angeles, to facilitate rapid mobilization and allocation of resources when needed.
The National Weather Service warned of "Life-threatening flash floods in Southern California, heavy snow and strong winds continue in the mountains, and a great danger threatens lives and property."

The first waves of wind and rain

The first waves of wind and heavy rain hit the area on Tuesday night, as Los Angeles residents woke up to uprooted trees blocking streets, minor flooding, and power outages for thousands of people as a result of the severity of the Christmas storm.
Coastal areas in Pacific Palisades and Malibu are on high alert, as they are still recovering from the devastating wildfires that broke out in January.

And due to the damage caused by Fires, the ground became vulnerable to mudslides as rain continued.
Evacuation centers were opened across the region after some Southern California residents received evacuation orders.
Several major roads were closed due to flash flood warnings in effect in large areas of the region.

Floods and rockslides

Meteorologist Ariel Cohen told reporters: "By Wednesday night into Friday, many areas will likely have witnessed major floods, rockslides, and mudslides, especially in the highlands and roads that pass through the valleys."
He pointed out that some areas of Southern California may witness up to 30.5 centimeters of rain.
Cohen addressed the residents of the state by saying: "If you are planning to travel during the Christmas holidays, please reconsider your plans".
