The Arab League stresses the necessity of adopting innovative paths to preserve the status of the Arabic language

Cairo, December 27 / WAM / The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States stressed the necessity of adopting innovative paths and effective policies to preserve the status of the Arabic language and enhance its role as an essential component of identity and a tool for national sovereignty, in light of the increasing challenges it faces with the rapid digital transformations.
Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, said in a statement today that the discussion about the status of the Arabic language is of particular importance as it is a language spoken by about 467 million people, stressing the necessity of developing educational curricula, enhancing linguistic qualification, and encouraging the creation of innovative Arabic content that keeps pace with the times.
Khattabi pointed out that Arabic content does not exceed about 3 percent of the total content on the Internet, according to UNESCO’s estimates for the year 2025, stressing the importance of investing in the opportunities provided by artificial intelligence and digital transformation in supporting the Arabic language, as it is a basic pillar of any Arab renaissance and development project.
