Security personnel were injured during protests in Latakia

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday that some of its members were injured as a result of “an assault by some elements affiliated with the remnants of the former regime” during protests in the Latakia Governorate on the Syrian coast.
The Commander of Internal Security in Latakia Governorate, Brigadier General Abdulaziz Al-Ahmad, said in a statement published by the Ministry of Interior today: “During the protests called for by Ghazal Ghazal at Al-Azhari Roundabout in the city of Latakia, gunmen opened fire in the air, while Internal Security personnel contained the situation.”
He added: “During the protests at the Al-Azhari roundabout in the city of Latakia and the National Hospital roundabout in the city of Jableh, we observed the presence of masked and armed elements belonging to the so-called “Saraya Coast Shield” and “Saraya Al-Jawad,” which are responsible for field liquidation operations and detonating explosive devices on the M1 highway.”
Al-Ahmad reported, “An attack by some members of the remnants of the former regime, as part of the protests called for by Ghazal Ghazal, against internal security personnel in Latakia Governorate in the cities of Latakia and Jableh, which led to the injury of some of our members, and the destruction of cars belonging to special duties and the police.”
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicated that a number of demonstrators were injured with varying injuries, and the condition of one of them was described as “critical,” following an attack with machetes and knives on demonstrators at the intersection of the Al-Amara roundabout in the city of Jableh in the Latakia Governorate on the Syrian coast.
The Observatory said, in a press release, that the attack occurred while demonstrators were gathering, which led to a state of panic and casualties at the scene, before they were quickly transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
