During the World Sports Summit in Dubai, Serbian international tennis star Djokovic resolves the controversy over his retirement

DUBAI, 29 December / WAM / World tennis legend, Serbian Novak Djokovic, was crowned today with the “Global Lifetime Achievement Award” within the thirteenth session of the “Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Creativity Award”, during the activities of the first day of the World Sports Summit, which began today in Dubai.

In his speech during the summit, Djokovic resolved the growing controversy surrounding his retirement, stressing that he is still enthusiastic about continuing his sports career and contributing to the development of tennis globally. He stressed his feeling of ability to give and that passion and love for the game are the decisive factors in his continuation, and he currently sits, at the age of thirty-eight, on the throne of the most decorated players in Grand Slam tournaments with 24 titles, distributed between 10 titles in the Australian Open and 7 in Wimbledon, 4 at the US Open, and 3 at Roland Garros.

The Serbian star attributed the secret of his long athletic life to the great development in the fields of sports medicine and technology, but he stressed that the concept of sustainability is not limited to the physical aspect only, but rather includes a person’s management of his time, energy, and mental health.

He explained that from a young age he adopted an integrated approach to self-care thanks to his first coach, who instilled in him the principles of discipline and mental awareness, pointing out that the real motivation to continue goes beyond just achieving achievements and is linked to the values and message that the athlete leaves for future generations.

Djokovic recalled his memory, explaining that tennis gave him the most beautiful experiences of his professional and human life, even though his start with the game came by chance in his childhood, in a country that was going through difficult circumstances and great challenges, and without any of his family members playing the game.

He pointed out that these challenges contributed to honing his will to achieve his biggest dream of winning the Wimbledon Championship, concluding his speech by emphasizing that he owes everything he has achieved to his parents, and that he does not play only for himself, but for his parents and his people, who give him constant support and motivation to continue.
