Successful recovery of a child suffering from complex congenital conditions at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City

Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, a subsidiary of SEHA within the PureHealth Group, achieved the successful recovery of a three-year-old boy who had suffered from complex congenital conditions including “mosaic trisomy 8 syndrome,” “cleft palate,” and “congenital heart disease,” through a comprehensive treatment approach based on multidisciplinary care and compassionate support.

The latest echocardiographic examinations confirmed the child’s healthy ventricular function, and the absence of any residual ventricular septal defect (VSD), in conjunction with a gradual improvement in indicators of pulmonary hypertension as a result of treatment with a low dose of “sildenafil.”

The child is scheduled to continue regular follow-up at the cardiology clinic at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, in addition to continuous follow-up at the pulmonary clinic and general pediatric clinics.
The child was diagnosed at birth with a ventricular septal defect, which required careful surgical intervention. In 2024, he underwent a successful heart operation that contributed to correcting the congenital defect, after which medical care continued by diagnosing pulmonary hypertension and managing the condition through careful follow-up and an ongoing treatment plan under the supervision of a specialized medical team.

Dr. Arif Al-Hakami, pediatric cardiologist consultant at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, said that the child’s treatment journey embodies the exceptional strength of a young child and the dedication of the medical team, pointing out that the progress achieved is the result of integrated teamwork and continuous cooperation between various medical specialties throughout the stages of treatment.
