The Iraqi Parliament elects Haibat Al-Halbousi as Speaker of its sixth session

On Monday, the new Iraqi Council of Representatives elected Haibat Al-Halbousi as its sixth session president for the next four years.

Al-Halbousi gained the confidence of parliamentarians during the first round of the voting process in the first session, in which 309 representatives participated according to the direct secret ballot process that took place after three representatives came forward to compete for the position of Speaker of Parliament, namely Haibat Al-Halbousi, Salem Al-Issawi, and Amer Abdul-Jabbar.

After counting and sorting the ballot papers, Representative Haibat Al-Halbousi received 208 votes, while Representative Salem Al-Issawi received 66 votes, and Representative Amer Abdul-Jabbar received nine votes, and 26 votes were recorded as invalid.

Representative Muthanna Al-Samarrai, leader of the Al-Azm Bloc, announced his withdrawal from running for the position of Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament after announcing last night his candidacy to run in the competition to win the position of Speaker of Parliament.

Today, the Iraqi Parliament held its first session in the sixth legislative session for the next four years, headed by MP Amer Al-Fayez, the oldest member, who announced the opening of nominations for the position of Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament and his two deputies.
