The efforts of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen and the development projects and initiatives it provides are an extension and integration with the historical support provided by the Kingdom to Yemen, and proceed according to a strategy that begins with raising the efficiency and effectiveness of support, with local, regional and international partnerships, to help the government and institutions of the Yemeni state to achieve peace, stability and reconstruction, improve the standard of living of the Yemeni people, and promote sustainable development throughout the Republic of Yemen.

The application of the program includes The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen adopts the concepts of sustainability in its development interventions to build the capabilities of Yemeni cadres in various fields, use renewable energy technologies, and build effective community communication with beneficiaries in support of stability and linking development work to peace work.

Achievements of the Saudi Program

The achievements of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen were represented in presenting 268 development projects and initiatives in 8 vital sectors that included education, health, water, Energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, and developing and supporting the capabilities of the Yemeni government, and development programs in 16 Yemeni governorates.

Development projects and initiatives have raised the capabilities of the health sector, achieving a positive impact on the lives of 4 million beneficiaries, of which the King Salman Medical and Educational City project in Al-Mahra stands out as the largest project supporting the health and education sectors with an area of one million square metres, including the construction of an integrated hospital with a capacity of 110 beds, and Prince Mohammed Hospital. Bin Salman in Aden, with a bed capacity of up to 270 beds, providing more than 3 million medical services since its operation, and specialized medical centers such as: heart and dialysis centers, and what specializes in maternity and childhood care and other specialized medical centers.

Supporting education

It supported education in 11 Yemeni governorates, which included: Taiz, Aden, Socotra, Al-Mahra, Ma’rib, Hadramaut, Hajjah, and Lahj. Abyan, Shabwa, and Al-Dhalea, with projects in general and higher education and technical and vocational training, including the development package for the University of Aden, the establishment and equipment of colleges of medicine, pharmacy, and nursing at the University of Taiz, and the development and expansion of the University of the Sheba region in Ma’rib.

The program’s projects and initiatives contributed to enhancing water security in Yemen, and raised the efficiency of its distribution and management. One of the most prominent implications of the support was covering 100% of the water needs in the city of Al-Ghaydah, and 50% of the water needs. Socotra, as well as 10% of the needs in Aden.

Transport Sector

While projects in the transport sector have achieved a positive impact on 14 million beneficiaries, with vital projects, the most important of which is the rehabilitation of 150 km of roads in various governorates, including the rehabilitation of the Al-Abr Road.
