Zahran Mamdani officially takes over as mayor of New York

The Democrat became 34-year-old Mamdani was sworn in at a historic subway station in Manhattan, during a short ceremony presided over by New York State Attorney General Letitia James, an arch enemy of Trump who in 2024 won a lawsuit she filed against him on charges of fraud. The most prominent cultural figure in Harlem was the pioneering writer and historian in the history of black Americans, Arturo Schomberg, who died in 1938.
Mamdani, who was keen on symbols, justified his choice as a station. Mamdani was elected on a platform openly opposed to Trump, especially in the areas of the economy and immigration.
