Maduro’s deputy temporarily assumes the presidency of Venezuela

On Saturday, the Supreme Court of Venezuela ordered Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to temporarily assume the presidency following the US arrest of President Nicolas Maduro.

The Court’s Constitutional Chamber said, “Rodriguez, as the responsible party, assumes all the responsibilities, duties and powers assigned to the position of President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the aim of ensuring continuity of administration and comprehensive defense of the nation.”

The judges have not yet declared Maduro permanently absent, which would have led to early elections within 30 days.
