Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum"Snap" They launch augmented reality experiences

Abu Dhabi, January 14, 2017 – The Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum announced its cooperation with Snap to launch a set of augmented reality experiences, allowing visitors to explore stations from the Earth’s natural history extending back more than 13 billion years, within an interactive environment based on augmented reality technologies.

Using world transformation technology, the museum lobby was redesigned to look like a lush forest from the Jurassic period. Where visitors can wander among three ancient types of dinosaurs: Camarasaurus, Barosaurus and Tylosaurus, each of which has been reconstructed in its natural form with a rich educational story explanation.

The lenses help add an aesthetic touch to the space surrounding the prehistoric foliage with bioluminescent lighting that creates a captivating environment that allows multiple users to explore at the same time.

Visitors can also have a live experience via Snapchat cameras through a permanent QR code in the museum.

Through the new generation “Snap” glasses, visitors will have the opportunity to experience an exclusive display using augmented reality technology. During demonstrations and organized tours, they can see a life-sized Brachiosaurus right in front of them, without the need for screens or mobile devices, in an experience that combines the physical and digital environments to learn about prehistoric times.

Visitors to the museum can see a blue whale in its natural size and with realistic photographic accuracy. The lens includes an X-ray feature through which one can view the internal structure of the whale, including its heart, lungs, and the ways it adapts to diving in the deep sea. This experience helps transform abstract scientific data into an effective visual learning tool that people of different ages can easily understand.

Dr. Peter C. said: Kjaergaard, Director of the Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum, said that cooperation with “Snap” allows the museum to display and teach historical stories in an interactive way. By integrating global science with advanced augmented reality technology, it allows visitors the opportunity to understand the history of planet Earth in deeper and more accessible ways, noting that this cooperation embodies the museum’s mission aimed at inspiring curiosity and enhancing the spirit of discovery, and it also represents a new chapter in how cultural institutions interact with the public.

For his part, Antoine Chaletta, President of Snap in the United Arab Emirates, said that cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum establishes new experiences in the field of augmented reality, by using Snap technology to bring life to a historical period dating back more than 13 billion years, in a journey that combines discovery and learning, which enhances the role of technology in deepening the connection to the past, arousing the curiosity of future generations, and enabling visitors to live history in all its dimensions and not just watch it.
