White House meeting.. Denmark fails to change the American position on Greenland

The meeting ended between American, Danish and Greenland Wednesday at The White House contrary to what the Secretary of State described Denmark Lars Lokke Rasmussen called it essential, stressing that there is no justification for seizing the Arctic island as the US President threatens.
Participated in the meeting, which ended after less than 90 minutes, Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Rasmussen said after leaving the meeting: "We have not been able to change the American position. It is clear that the president has a desire to invade Greenland, and we have made it very clear that this is not in the interest of the Kingdom."
But Donald Trump downplayed the controversy by later telling reporters in the Oval Office, "The relationship is very good with Denmark. I think we’ll come up with something"
A sensitive issue for the people of Greenland and Denmark
Rasmussen said that there is absolutely no need for the United States to seize Greenland, as it has had a military base for a long time.
The Danish minister urged Washington to engage in respectful cooperation with Denmark, and described the issue as very sensitive for the people of Greenland and Denmark, a staunch ally of the United States whose soldiers were martyred alongside the Americans in Afghanistan, and in Iraq as well.
He added: "Ideas that do not respect the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark and the right of the people of Greenland to self-determination are, of course, absolutely unacceptable. Therefore, we still have a fundamental disagreement, but we agree to disagree."
He said that the two sides will form a committee that will meet within weeks to discuss the possibility of reaching a solution.
Danish military reinforcement in Greenland
Hours before the meeting, Denmark announced that it was strengthening its military deployment in Greenland in an effort to limit the escalation of American threats to seize the vast, sparsely populated territory of the queen.
However, Trump stressed on Wednesday that NATO should support control. On Greenland because it is vital to the American missile and air defense system, which he called "The golden dome"
He wrote on his social media network: "NATO would be much more powerful and effective if Greenland were under US control, and anything less is unacceptable"
He added: "If we don’t do it, Russia or China will do it, and that won’t happen".
However, in statements to the Danish media, Rasmussen confirmed that "No Chinese ships and no major Chinese investments in Greenland".
