An Egyptian attack on El-Shenawy…technical criticism and charging him with the goal of losing to Senegal (video)

Egyptian national team goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy was subjected to harsh criticism from fans and sports pundits in his country, after they held him responsible for the goal scored by Portuguese player Sadio Mane in the semi-final match of the African Cup of Nations currently being held in Morocco.
Former Egyptian national team goalkeeper Ikramy El-Shahat told MBC Egypt: “El-Shenawy’s level in the tournament does not reflect his true abilities… Mane’s shot came from a long distance and from a clear angle of vision, and there is no justification for not responding to it,” adding that “El-Shenawy was not subjected to real pressure throughout the match, and yet he conceded a goal for which he bears full responsibility.”
He explained: “El-Shenawy did not show a sufficient reaction to try to stop the ball, and such balls should be dealt with easily at this level.”

Ekramy also criticized the technical staff led by Hossam Hassan, and said, “The fatigue resulting from the pressure of matches does not justify relying on the scenario of reaching penalty kicks, especially in a strong confrontation the size of Senegal.”
The Egyptian team was eliminated from the African Championship, which it won seven times (a record) after losing to Senegal with an unanswered goal, scored by Mane in the 78th minute, so that the Senegalese team qualified for the final match with Morocco scheduled for next Sunday (23:00 UAE time).
