FIFA resolves its position on Khedira’s representation of the Tunisian national team

The Football Court of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) approved the request of Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira to represent the Tunisia national team, according to what the Tunisian Football Federation announced on Thursday.
According to a statement published by the Tunisian Federation, “The single judge of the players’ situation room decided, based on the administrative procedures initiated by the Federation and in embodiment of the clear and firm desire expressed by the player to defend the colors of Tunisia, to accept the request of the Tunisian Football Federation regarding changing the National Association for the player Rani Khedira.”
The statement added: “The player has become eligible to represent the national teams affiliated with the Tunisian Football Federation with immediate effect,” noting that “the German Football Association, the Confederation of African Football, and the European Football Association have been officially informed of this decision.”
Khedira, who was born in the German city of Stuttgart on January 27, 1994, is currently active with German Union Berlin since the 2021-2022 season, noting that he previously defended the colors of Augsburg, Leipzig and Stuttgart.
Khedira, who is the brother of former German international Sami Khedira, participated in 26 matches in various competitions this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
At the international level, Khedira defended the colors of the German national team for the age groups, but he had never played any match for the first “Die Mannschaft” national team, which made him legally eligible to represent the “Carthage Eagles.”
In its statement, the Tunisian Federation welcomed the player’s joining, wished him success, and expressed its pride in the completion of this file.
Khedira strengthens Tunisia’s ranks ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, as it was drawn in Group F alongside the Netherlands and Japan teams and the qualifiers from the European qualifying round between Ukraine, Sweden, Poland and Albania.
