المملكة: The millet festival begins tomorrow in Barq to invest in local crops

Amir sponsors Asir Region His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, tomorrow, the launch of The Third Millet Festival in Bariq Governorate – 120 km north of Abha – under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Asir region, and organized by the Agricultural Cooperative Society in Bariq, with the participation of a number of government and private agencies.
The festival comes to emphasize the economic dimension of local crops, by supporting farmers, empowering productive families, and strengthening agricultural value chains for millet, which contributes to raising marketing efficiency, opening direct sales channels, and stimulating the commercial movement in the governorate.
Awareness programs
The festival includes multiple sections displaying millet products and its derivatives, in addition to introductory sections for parties related to the agricultural sector, and participation by productive families and local farmers, in addition to awareness programs and accompanying events that highlight investment opportunities for the crop and its role in achieving sustainable economic returns.
The festival is expected to witness a large turnout of visitors and those interested in agricultural products and food heritage, as it is held in the Palm Walk in Barq Governorate, and its doors are open daily during the evening, which contributes to stimulating agricultural tourism and supporting the local economy.
Increasing interest
Millet is one of the ancient crops in Barq Governorate, due to its suitability to the local environment and its high nutritional value, while the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture is paying increasing attention to it as an economically promising national product, by supporting its cultivation, developing its production and marketing, which contributes to enhancing agricultural sustainability.
