The Abu Dhabi Department of Health cooperates with the World Economic Forum to develop smart health systems

The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi and the World Economic Forum announced the signing of the next phase of their partnership concerned with developing smart health systems and long healthy lives, consolidating Abu Dhabi’s global leadership position in preventive and personal health.

The signing took place in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, andMinister of Cabinet Affairs, Member of the Leadership Council of the World Economic Forum Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Gergawi, andCEO of the World Economic Forum “Davos”Borg Brende, WChairman of the Board of Directors of BlackRock, and Interim Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Economic Forum Larry Fink.

In this context, he said: Head of the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi Mansour Al Mansouri: Health systems today are witnessing an increasing momentum of individual innovations and pioneering experiments, but this development still lacks integration and relies on a traditional approach based on responding to disease rather than anticipating its occurrence. Through our partnership with the World Economic Forum, we are working to bring about a shift in the global model of health care by moving towards a smart health infrastructure based on the integration of data and advanced technologies. This trend aims to build a proactive health system enhanced with personal care, which places prevention at the top of priorities before treatment, and enables members of communities to enjoy a long, healthy life on a broad and real population scale.

This step comes as a continuation of the previous phase of the partnership between the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi and the Forum, which resulted in the issuance of a joint research paper entitled “A New Era of Digital Health: Abu Dhabi’s Leap towards Health Intelligence.”

The paper reviews how Abu Dhabi succeeded in building an integrated system that links clinical, genomic, lifestyle, and environmental data, with the aim of predicting risks, preventing diseases, and supporting health policy making on a wide population scale.

For his part, he said Head of the Center for Health and Healthcare and Member of the Executive Committee of the World Economic Forum Dr. Shyam Bishan: Within the framework of the next phase, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi will continue its role as a leading global hub within the World Economic Forum’s platform for digital transformation in the healthcare sector, which is an international network that includes more than 200 entities from the health, technology, policy and investment sectors, and aims to accelerate the pace of development of health systems worldwide, and support more efficient and sustainable models that put people at the heart of the care system.

Within the next phase, Abu Dhabi will continue its role as a leading global destination for exploration and experimentation within the Forum’s Digital Transformation in Healthcare Initiative, which is an international platform led by CEOs and ministers, and brings together more than 200 entities from the healthcare, technology, policy-making and investment sectors, with the aim of accelerating the transformation of health systems globally, and reimagining the concept of health through digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and data-based solutions on a large scale.

Abu Dhabi’s experience in this field will continue to inspire global dialogues and chart the paths of cooperation relations within many priority areas, including: developing the concept of long healthy life with the support of health research, the role of smart health systems in inspiring public health policies and the process of decision-making and policy preparation on a broader scale, and the introduction of digital technologies, data and artificial intelligence at the level of the health system.

This work will integrate with the Forum’s broader health initiatives, including the Healthy Longevity Initiative, the Community of Chief Health Officers, and the Partnership for the Sustainability of Health Systems and Their Ability to Face Challenges led by stakeholders, providing opportunities to link Abu Dhabi’s experience with leaders in policy development, the health sector, and investment at the global level.
