Hamdan bin Mohammed and the Kuwaiti Minister of Defense witness part of the work of the Emirati-Kuwait Media Forum

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed that the relations between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Kuwait represent an exceptional model of fraternal relations between sister countries, based on trust and mutual respect, and reflect a common vision for a prosperous future that enhances the process of development and prosperity in the two countries, and benefits their brotherly peoples.

His Highness said: “We are proud of the long journey that brought together the UAE and Kuwait through decades of joint work in various political, economic, cultural and social fields, and we are always working to strengthen and develop this strategic partnership in a way that serves the common interests and achieves the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.”

In turn, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Minister of Defense of the sisterly State of Kuwait, affirmed that the relations between the State of Kuwait and the sisterly State of the Emirates are based on deep historical ties and strong humanitarian values, indicating that these relations are becoming more solid under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and His Highness Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait.

During the activities of the Emirati-Kuwaiti Media Forum, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah witnessed the “Gulf War and Emirati-Kuwaiti Cohesion” session, which addressed the honorable Emirati role in Kuwait during the Iraqi invasion crisis in 2017. 1990She reviewed testimonies about crisis management and the unified Gulf position, and highlighted the humanitarian and logistical aspect of Emirati support.

Lieutenant General, retired pilot Rashad Mohammed Al-Saadi, confirmed that the Emirati position during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was characterized from the first moments by complete vigilance and high readiness, both on the military and political levels, noting that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, adopted a clear and decisive position of rejecting the occupation and defending Kuwait’s sovereignty and legitimacy.

Al-Saadi pointed out that the late Sheikh Zayed stressed during that stage that the State of Kuwait would return to being free and independent as it was before the occupation, based on a firm principle based on preserving the stability of the region and respecting international legitimacy.

Al-Saadi touched on the political movement that led to the formation of the International Coalition to Liberate the State of Kuwait, explaining that the military operations were based on integrated strategic planning, preceded by an intensive air campaign, and paved the way for the success of the ground operations that culminated in the liberation of Kuwait.

He reviewed the scenes of popular cohesion in the UAE, stressing that the country received tens of thousands of Kuwaiti citizens during the crisis period, and provided them with accommodation and support, in a humanitarian manner that reflected the depth of fraternal relations and the deep-rooted historical ties between the two brotherly peoples.

Al-Saadi explained that this stage constituted a starting point for a comprehensive modernization process in the UAE Armed Forces, which included developing education and training systems, and strengthening military partnerships and alliances.

For his part, retired pilot Major General Saber Al-Suwaidan reviewed the details of the first hours of the Iraqi invasion, and the intense bombing operations that Kuwaiti air bases witnessed and attempts to confront the attack, explaining that a number of Kuwaiti planes were forced to head towards the Gulf Cooperation Council countries after the infrastructure of a number of air bases was destroyed.

He pointed out that a number of Kuwaiti aircraft landed in the UAE, stressing that the UAE Air Force provided direct support to the Kuwaiti Air Force, which included providing technical support and spare parts, in addition to training Kuwaiti pilots for several years after the liberation, in a step that reflected the depth of military and fraternal cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

Al-Suwaidan confirmed that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, was present at critical stages during the war and after it, pointing to His Highness’s keenness and insistence on being present in the State of Kuwait after the liberation, in a position that embodies the depth of the fraternal commitment and joint solidarity between the two countries.

The Emirati-Kuwaiti Media Forum included a number of dialogue sessions in which an elite group of speakers from the UAE and the sisterly State of Kuwait participated. The forum formed a comprehensive platform for reviewing educational, media, cultural and sports relations between the two countries, and honoring the pioneers who contributed to building these ties since their beginnings.
