The chief meteorologist at the US Weather Prediction Center, Bob Oravec, said: "Winter storm warnings cover parts of southern Virginia, eastern Tennessee, North and South Carolina, and northeastern Georgia as the storm intensifies along the southern Atlantic coast, threatening to dump 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 centimeters) of snow across a wide area."
He added: "Strong wind gusts of up to 45 miles (72 kilometers) per hour will also sweep the region in some areas.".
