Official statistics: 9 main sectors that enhance the competitiveness of the national economy and provide job opportunities for citizens

“Manufacturing” is the second largest sector contributing to the GDP, at 16.1%

Official statistics revealed the existence of 9 main sectors that contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and provide quality job opportunities for citizens, stressing that they include the financial and insurance activities sector, the manufacturing sector, the transportation and storage sector, the information and communications technology sector, the accommodation and food services sector (tourism), the education sector, the professional, scientific and technical activities sector, the administrative activities and support services sector, in addition to the health and social work sector.

In detail, the financial and insurance activities sector is the largest contributor to the GDP at a rate of 17.8%, and is among the fastest growing non-oil sectors. It is also characterized by a high rate of Bahrainization and the provision of job opportunities with competitive salaries for national cadres.

The manufacturing sector comes in second place, as it is the second largest sector contributing to the gross domestic product at 16.1%, with continuous growth and a pivotal role in enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and providing job opportunities for national cadres, according to statistics.

As for the transportation and storage sector, it recorded rapid growth at a growth rate of 4.4% on an annual basis in the third quarter of 2025, and is considered one of the vital sectors to support commercial movement and supply chains, with competitive wages and development opportunities for national cadres.

Statistics showed that the information and communications technology sector is the second fastest growing sector on an annual basis of 10.8% during the period from the third quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2025, as this sector is considered a major driver of digital transformation and provides quality jobs for national cadres.

The accommodation and food services sector (tourism) witnessed continuous growth, driven by an increase in the number of visitors, and an increase in tourism spending, which exceeded 478 million dinars, with an increase of 6.4% during the third quarter of 2025, which reflects its increasing role in supporting the national economy and expanding job opportunities. The sector ranks fourth among the fastest growing sectors on an annual basis, at a rate of 4.6% during the second quarter of 2025.

As for the education sector, it is recording strong growth in addition to a high Bahrainization rate, which enhances its role in developing human capital and supporting sustainable development, as it comes in third place in terms of the sectors with the highest employment of Bahrainis, and it also comes in third place among the highest-growing non-oil sectors in the gross domestic product on an annual basis with an increase rate of 4.8% in the third quarter of 2025.

As for the professional, scientific and technical activities sector, it is considered one of the fastest growing sectors on an annual basis at a rate of 12%, with the increasing demand for specialized professional and technical services that provide high added value and promising job opportunities.

Statistics showed that the administrative activities and support services sector is a fast-growing sector with broad opportunities, and contributes to supporting administrative operations and the service sector, and provides various opportunities for national cadres, as the administrative activities and support services sector achieved the fifth highest growth rate on an annual basis during the period from the third quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2025, with an average growth of 5.9% annually.

As for the health and social work sector, it is characterized by high rates of Bahrainis, as it comes in fifth place among the highest non-oil sectors in terms of the percentage of Bahrainis. It is also characterized by a high percentage of Bahraini women’s participation, which reaches 63% of the total number of workers in it.
