The office of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a statement: "Pretoria intends to withdraw its forces from the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo".

The statement stated that Ramaphosa informed United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of the decision, which came due to the need to reorganize the resources of the South African Armed Forces.

It is noteworthy that South Africa has contributed over 27 years to the United Nations peacekeeping efforts in the Congo with more than 700 soldiers.
