The UAE strongly condemns the targeting of a World Food Program convoy in Sudan

The UAE expressed its strong condemnation of the attack that targeted a World Food Program humanitarian relief convoy in North Kordofan State, Sudan, resulting in the death and injury of a number of people, which is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to protect humanitarian and relief workers, and not to politicize humanitarian aid or use it as a weapon.

The UAE renewed its firm position calling for an immediate ceasefire, stopping the fighting, facilitating the unhindered access of urgent humanitarian aid, and a serious transitional process led by a comprehensive civilian government that is completely independent of both parties to the conflict and extremist groups.

The Ministry stressed the UAE’s position in support of peace efforts, and the need to intensify joint action in a way that contributes to alleviating human suffering and meets the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people for security and stability.

In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the UAE’s commitment to supporting the Sudanese people is firm and ongoing, noting its recent announcement of a financial pledge of 500 million US dollars to contribute to meeting urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan, and its role as the second largest humanitarian supporter to Sudan after the United States since the outbreak of the civil war in 2023.
