The Secretary General of NATO (NATO) Mark Rutte said that the alliance countries are investing tens of billions of euros to enhance their defense capabilities, as part of the preparations for the NATO summit scheduled in the Turkish capital, Ankara, next July.
Mark indicated during a press conference today that the defense ministers will hold a meeting at NATO headquarters tomorrow to discuss preparations for the next summit in Turkey, in addition to following up on the implementation of the decisions that were taken during the Hague summit last year.
Raise Defense spending
Rutte explained that the Allies agreed in The Hague to make NATO "Stronger and fairer"especially by raising defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035, in addition to significantly strengthening the defense industrial base.
He stated that the meeting of defense ministers will also discuss future plans of member states to increase defense spending and set a realistic path to achieving the alliance’s common goal, stressing at the same time that increasing investments must be accompanied by the availability of the necessary defense capabilities and the possibility of purchasing them to enhance the alliance’s military readiness.
