Champion of the 2022 edition.. Ostapenko bids farewell to “Dubai Tennis” in the first round

World number 11 and champion of the 2022 edition of the Dubai Tennis Championships bid farewell to Latvia, Elena Ostapenko, from the first round of the 2026 edition, after suffering a surprise loss to Russian Anna Kalinskaya, ranked 23 in the world, by two sets to one, in a match that brought them together today, Monday, at sub-stadium No. 1, in the tournament currently being held at the Dubai Duty Free courts in the Garhoud area, and which is classified in the category 1,000 points, with a total prize pool of $4.08 million, and it will be unveiled on February 21.
Ostapenko was able to end the first set in her favor (6-2), but her opponent, Kalinskaya, quickly managed to equalize the score and decide the second set by (6-1), and impose a third set decider, during which the Russian player continued her awakening and decided her result by (6-4) and won the match.
Tomorrow, Russian Kalinskaya will face off against American world number four Coco Gauff in the opening of the second round of the tournament.
