US intelligence: China is developing a new generation of nuclear weapons
US intelligence agencies reportedly believe that Chinais working on developing a new generation of Nuclear weapons, and that it has conducted at least one secret explosive test in recent years as part of a broader effort to transform its entire nuclear arsenal into the most technologically advanced arsenal in the world, according to multiple sources familiar with US intelligence assessments.
She confirmed that the American assessment of China’s intention to radically develop its nuclear weapons fuels debate within and outside intelligence circles, about whether there is a shift in Beijing’s thinking regarding its nuclear strategy.

Informed sources told "CNN" The evidence collected led US officials to conclude that the motive behind the test, which China secretly conducted in 2020, was China’s quest to develop next-generation nuclear weapons, including efforts to develop additional weapons systems capable of carrying multiple miniaturized nuclear warheads from a single missile. In which Beijing is responding to a possible US defense of Taiwan.
Previous public reports from US intelligence officials have indicated that China is aggressively expanding its nuclear sites, and analysts suspect that Beijing may be seeking to develop new technologies.
US officials now believe there is strong evidence to support this theory, in part due to findings about the 2020 test.
China has had a nuclear arsenal since 1964, and has produced warheads faster than any other country in the world, although the size of its arsenal lags far behind Russia and the United States, which still possess the largest share of the world’s nuclear weapons.
