Latifa Bint Mohammed crowns American Pegula champion of Dubai Tennis for women

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, crowned American star Jessica Pegula, ranked fifth in the world, with the title of the Dubai Duty Free Championship for professional women’s players, after her victory over Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, ranked ninth in the world, by two sets without a response (6-2, 6-4), in the final match that took place this evening, Saturday, at the main “Dubai Duty Free” stadium in the Garhoud area, and lasted an hour. And 13 minutes, on the closing day of the tournament, which began its 26th edition last Saturday, and is classified in the 1,000 point category, with a total prize pool of $4.08 million.

The American Pegula won the first place prize of $665,000 in addition to 1,000 points added to her total global ranking points, while the Ukrainian Svitolina won the second place prize of $385,000 and 650 points.

American Pegula has become the 19th star in history to win the Dubai Tennis Championship for professional players since its inception in 2001, and the third American player to win the title, after Lindsay Davenport in the 2005 edition, and the legendary Venus Williams, who won the titles three years (2009, 2010 and 2014).
