A major snow storm paralyzes the transportation network in New York

Today, Monday, the local authorities in New York City announced the closure of the entire transportation network in the city, except for emergency transportation, coinciding with the start of a major snow storm hitting the northeastern coast of the United States.
National Meteorological Authority forecasts indicate that the storm may lead to the accumulation of snow reaching a thickness of up to 60 centimeters in some areas, making movement “extremely dangerous,” amid warnings of power outages due to strong winds and the density of snow that has begun to cover the city’s landmarks and cause a lack of visibility.
The state of emergency entered into force to include the closure of streets, roads and bridges to all types of traffic of cars, trucks and bicycles, with calls being made to residents to stay at home and avoid unnecessary movements, in light of a storm described as the most severe the region has witnessed in a decade.
In a related context, other American states declared a state of emergency, including New Jersey, while the city of Boston decided to close schools and municipal headquarters, amid expectations of coastal floods that may affect waterfront properties in several states extending from Delaware to Massachusetts.
