Kim Jong-un is re-elected as Secretary-General of the ruling party in North Korea

On Monday, the Workers’ Party of Korea in North Korea re-elected leader Kim Jong Un as Secretary-General of the party during the currently held ninth conference, amid anticipation of announcing major political goals for the next five years.

Pointing to the “unwavering” approval of party members, the people and soldiers, the North’s Korean Central News Agency said the congress “decided to re-elect Comrade Kim Jong Un as Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party of Korea… in order to strengthen and develop our party and the prosperity of our nation.”

The agency explained that the decision was taken on the fourth day of the conference, which usually lasts several days and is expected to conclude with the announcement of the broad outlines of the main policies, especially in the areas of economy, defense and diplomacy.
