The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi lays a wreath in front of the Independence Monument in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito

Quito – Ecuador, 2 March / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visited Independence Square in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, where His Highness participated in a wreath-laying ceremony in front of the Independence Monument, in honor of the memory of the heroes of the struggle for the independence of the Republic of Ecuador.

Upon his arrival to Independence Square, His Highness was greeted by His Excellency Daniel Noboa, President of the Republic of Ecuador, where His Highness and His Excellency the President reviewed a group of honor guards who were lined up to greet them.

The ceremony included the playing of the national anthem of the Republic of Ecuador, and His Highness observed a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the heroes of independence, followed by a parade of the honor guard, in a scene that reflects the national symbolism of this historical landmark and its place in the Ecuadorian conscience.

Independence Square in Quito is considered one of the most prominent national symbols in the Republic of Ecuador, because of the historical connotations it carries related to the independence march, while the Independence Monument, which was officially opened in 1906, embodies a national appreciation for the sacrifices of the heroes of independence, and is considered a major station in the country’s national memory.

During this visit, His Highness was accompanied by a delegation that included His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Head of the Court of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; His Excellency Hamid Obaid Abu Shabas, Chairman of the Emirates Accounting Authority; Her Excellency Maryam Eid Al Muhairi, Head of the Abu Dhabi Media Office, Strategic Relations Advisor at the Crown Prince’s Court; His Excellency Ghanem Sultan Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Security Affairs Advisor at the Crown Prince’s Court; His Excellency Ibrahim Salem Al Alawi, the UAE’s non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Ecuador; Omar Al Zaabi, Head of Commercial Affairs at EDGE Group.
