Nikos Christodilides: An Iranian Shahed drone crashed inside the British Akrotiri base
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides announced on Monday that a plane had crashed Inside a British base on the island of Cyprus, at a time when tensions related to the US-Israeli war with Iran are expanding in the region.
Slight material damage
Christodolides explained that minutes after midnight (22:00 GMT), “a Shahed drone crashed over the military installations at the British base in Akrotiri,” noting that the accident resulted in minor material damage. No casualties were reported.
He added, in a statement read via video clip, that the region is going through a phase of “unprecedented geopolitical turmoil” punctuated by multiple challenges and crises, stressing at the same time that Cyprus “does not participate in any way, nor does it intend to participate, in any military operation.”
