Abu Dhabi, 8 March / WAM / The Emirates Cup Show Jumping Championship has established its position on the international arena, after remarkable success in its two editions held in Abu Dhabi, turning into a global platform that contributes to supporting the progress of equestrian sports in the country, and enhancing the expertise of the Emirates riders by competing with the elite of internationally ranked riders.
The tournament, which was organized by the Emirates Equestrian and Racing Federation under the supervision of the International Federation, confirmed the UAE’s ability to host high-level sporting events, in accordance with the highest international standards, and highlighted its position at the forefront of the international equestrian sports scene, thanks to the integrated competitive environment it provided, which allowed the country’s riders the opportunity to directly interact with the best world champions, and to take on various challenges in the fields of show jumping, which reflected positively on the development of their levels and the results they achieved in foreign championships.
The event also demonstrated the country’s advanced infrastructure and modern facilities that keep pace with the global boom in equestrian sports, as the fields that hosted the event received wide praise from FEI officials and participating riders, starting with the first edition, which was held at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort, all the way to the second edition at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, especially after the club’s international show jumping field was approved in the world classification, as the first hybrid field that combines internal and external characteristics in the world.
In terms of results, the first edition witnessed the crowning of the title by the Swedish rider, Rolf Curran, riding the horse “Rosero HV”, after he recorded a time of 48.25 seconds with an error-free performance in the two rounds with a hurdle height of 160 cm. In the second edition, the Brazilian rider, Luciana Daines, won the title with the horse, “Vertigo de Desert”, with a time of 61.61 seconds and one penalty point, in a competition that reflected the high technical level of the tournament and its strength. its participants.
The UAE Show Jumping Cup is part of a wide system of international tournaments hosted by the country annually, which attract the most prominent riders and horses from around the world, confirming the UAE’s position as a distinguished destination for competing for major titles and valuable financial prizes, in addition to the high levels of competitiveness witnessed in its fields, such as the His Highness the President’s Cup, the His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s Cup, the Longines Nations League, and other prestigious tournaments.
Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri, Secretary-General of the Equestrian Federation, explained that the efforts of the Federation and the cooperation of the equestrian clubs in the country represent an essential pillar in the success of organizing high-ranking tournaments.
He pointed out that organizing this number of international tournaments in the Emirates reflects the amount of responsibility and commitment, and places the country at the forefront of countries in the region and the Middle East in terms of the intensity and quality of the international season, while attracting the world’s elite jumping riders in terms of classification, in addition to horses with the highest levels of readiness and competitiveness.
Al Hajri stressed that the participation of the UAE Show Jumping Team in tournaments at this advanced level demonstrates the importance of the positive impact of these hosting events, noting that the past period has witnessed a significant increase in the competitive level of the country’s riders, and their ability to reach advanced positions in international tournaments, in addition to continuing work to establish a strong base of young talents at various age levels.
In turn, Sultan Al Yahyai, Member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Equestrian and Racing Federation and Chairman of the Show Jumping Committee, said that equestrian sports organized and hosted by the UAE are witnessing global participation from elite champions, due to the strength of their championships, their advanced technical levels, and their direct impact on developing the skills of the country’s riders.
He explained that the tournaments contribute to enriching the competitions with technical challenges, and receive wide attention from followers around the world, thus enhancing the UAE’s position as a leading sports destination for hosting international events.
He pointed out the great importance of these tournaments in improving the competitive capabilities of UAE riders, as they provide direct contact opportunities with elite riders from different countries.
Jockey Abdullah Al Marri pointed out that the international championships hosted by the country are a pivotal station in the development of show jumping in the Emirates, stressing that participation in tournaments that include the world’s elite riders represents an important opportunity to measure the level of readiness and ability to face major challenges.
He stated that the championships add a lot to the career of every jockey, through experiencing the atmosphere of competition for first places, following up on the advanced performance of the world champions and benefiting from their experiences.
