Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi: The social sector stresses the importance of continuing to achieve sustainable social impact
ABU DHABI, March 12 / WAM / His Excellency Shams Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, confirmed that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is paying increasing attention to strengthening the social entrepreneurship system, as it is one of the important paths to enable society to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to social challenges.
His Excellency said: “The third sector and companies with a social purpose represent an advanced model of development work based on innovation and partnership, as individuals and institutions contribute, through their community initiatives and projects, to developing practical and sustainable solutions to various social issues, thus enhancing the positive impact of these efforts on society.”
This came during his inspection of the work of the “Athar Plus” Center, which was launched by the Community Contributions Authority – Together in 2025, accompanied by His Excellency Eng. Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary of the Department of Community Development, and His Excellency Abdullah Al Ameri, Director General of the Community Contributions Authority “Together” and a number of leaders in the Department and the Authority, in addition to social entrepreneurs, as part of the efforts of the social sector in the emirate to shed light on leading models in the field of social entrepreneurship, and support initiatives that contribute to creating a positive, sustainable impact that serves the community. It enhances the participation of individuals and institutions in achieving sustainable community development.
His Excellency also viewed a group of projects and initiatives led by companies with a social purpose and non-profit institutions, by providing innovative solutions to address a number of societal challenges in the areas of financial culture, health, sustainability, quality of life, and economic development, and promoting the principles of inclusion and community participation, which contributes to expanding the scope of the social impact of these initiatives and enhancing their role in supporting sustainable development. In addition, he was informed of the services that “Athar Plus” provides to these institutions to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity, expand the scope of their tasks and enhance their positive impact throughout the emirate. Al Dhaheri added that highlighting these pioneering models reflects the importance of shared social responsibility in building more cohesive and sustainable societies, and encourages more initiatives that combine innovation and the spirit of giving to serve society. He pointed out that these efforts are consistent with the values established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, which made humanitarian work and giving an established approach in the path of the UAE.
The head of the Department of Community Development stressed that Zayed Humanitarian Work Day represents a national occasion in which we recall these values, and through which we renew our emphasis on the role of individuals and institutions in contributing to building a united society in which everyone contributes to creating a positive impact.
For his part, His Excellency Abdullah Al Ameri, Director General of the Community Contributions Authority – Ma’an, said: “We believe that every contribution is capable of creating a positive social impact. From this standpoint, we are working to unify community efforts, direct giving and support social entrepreneurship to develop innovative solutions that address social priorities and improve the quality of life in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.”
He added: “These efforts are consistent with the solid humanitarian values established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, which we bring up on Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, confirming that giving is an established approach in UAE society, and a way to build a more cohesive and comprehensive society, by facilitating giving and motivating various sectors of society to participate actively in a way that reflects the values of social responsibility and cooperation and contributes to promoting sustainable social development.”
The Athar Plus Center is a specialized platform to support and accelerate social impact in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as it provides a supportive environment for social institutions, companies with a social purpose, and public benefit institutions, through work spaces, guidance programs, capacity building, and opportunities for cooperation and exchange of experiences, which contributes to the development of innovative solutions that serve society and enhance the sustainability of their impact.
