Dubai, March 25 / WAM / The draw for the 30th edition of the Dubai World Cup resulted in an equal start through the gates between 9 horses in the main race, within the evening scheduled for next Saturday at the Meydan Racecourse, with a total prize pool of 30.5 million US dollars, including $12 million for the main race, with the participation of 101 of the elite Emirati and international horses.

The Gallery Hall attached to the Meydan Hotel in Dubai hosted the draw ceremony today in the presence of His Excellency Ali Al Ali, Executive Director of the Dubai Horse Racing Club, in addition to a number of owners, trainers, and local and international media.

The horse “Meydan”, owned by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, starts in the main race under the supervision of trainers Simon and Ed Crisford, from gate (2), “Imperial Emperor”, from gate (7), and “Walk of Stars”, from gate (3), both under the supervision of trainer Popat Simar.

Gate 6 will witness the start of the Japanese horse “Forever Young”, under the supervision of coach Yoshito Yahagi, competing with “Hit Show”, the defending champion, under the supervision of American coach Brad Cox, from Gate (5), “Heart of Honor”, under the supervision of coach Jimmy Esbourne, from Gate (4), “Tab Leader”, under the supervision of coach Doug Watson, from Gate (8), “Magnitude”, under the supervision of American coach Steve Asmussen, from Gate (1), and “Tumbarumba”, under the supervision of Qatari coach Hamad Al-Juhani, from Gate (9).

A draw was also held for the “Al Quoz Speed”, “Dubai Golden Shaheen”, “Dubai Turf”, and “Longines Dubai Shaima Classic”, all for the first category.

The total prize money for the Dubai Turf race is $5 million, sponsored by DP World, over a distance of 1,800 meters on grass, with the participation of the Emirates’ horses, which are the horse “Ombodsman”, by Godolphin, and “Folk Festival”, by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and “Qudwa”, and “The Star”, by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The “Dubai Shaima Classic” race is held over a distance of 2,410 metres, sponsored by Longines, with prizes amounting to $6 million. The most prominent UAE horses participating in it are “Royal Power” and “By the Book” by Godolphin, amid strong competition from the first candidate, “Galandjan.”

The UAE is competing in the Al Quoz “grass” speed race for a distance of 1,200 meters, “first category”, and its prizes are $1.5 million, sponsored by Azizi Development, with the two horses “Marban” and “Native Approach”, and the Japanese horse “Logal” and the French “Lazat” also stand out.

The “Dubai Golden Shaheen” race, sponsored by “Nakheel,” begins over a distance of 1,200 meters for the “first category” on the sand track, with prizes amounting to one million dollars, with the participation of the most prominent local horses, including “Toes,” “Color Up,” “Droz Gold,” “Al Nassib,” “Midland Money,” and “Devon Island,” in addition to an elite group of American, Japanese, and Saudi horses.

The main draw was preceded by an electronic draw for 4 rounds: the “Dubai Kahila Classic”, for purebred Arabian horses “Class One”, for a distance of 2,000 meters of sand, and the “Godolphin Mile”, for a distance of 1,600 meters of sand, sponsored by “Emaar”, in addition to the “Dubai Gold Cup”, for a distance of 3,200 meters on grass, sponsored by Al Tayer Motors, and the “Emirates Derby”, for a distance of 1,900 meters of sand.
