المملكة: Urgent – The Communications Authority proposes regulations for Internet speeds… and requires 99% to update technologies

Introduced The Communications, Space and Technology Commission, the third edition of the document regulating coverage and speeds of mobile telecommunications services for visual surveys, with the aim of raising the adequacy of services and protecting users by specifying obligations.

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission clarified that if a service provider wishes to switch to a newer technology, it is required that at least “99%” of users’ devices support voice services for the new technology.

It added that the service provider has the right to submit a request for study when it achieves a percentage exceeding “90%”, including the necessary measures to mitigate adverse effects.

Processing lead time

The regulatory document confirmed that the Communications, Space and Technology Commission was granted a processing period of up to “180” days for service providers to fulfill their coverage and download speed obligations when their non-compliance is proven.

It indicated that the deadline can be extended in the event of geographical changes, provided that the total period does not exceed “360” days from the date of notification.

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission drew attention to the fact that the The Communications, Space and Technology Commissionnoted that the document based on the communications and information technology system aims to achieve transparency by collecting unified licensing obligations and government support projects.

It indicated its direct reliance on the General Authority for Statistics, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services, and the General Authority for Roads to accurately determine and classify geographical areas.
