Sharjah Voluntary Work Award: Environmental volunteering is an essential pillar for protecting planet Earth

Sharjah, April 22, WAM / The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work emphasized the importance of environmental volunteering as a fundamental pillar for protecting planet Earth and promoting sustainability, on the occasion of World Earth Day, which falls on April 22 of each year.

Her Excellency Suad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Award, explained that this occasion represents a renewed opportunity to enhance social responsibility towards the environment, and to consolidate the concepts of sustainability among individuals and institutions, in light of the accelerating environmental challenges that the world is witnessing.

She said that environmental volunteer work has become an urgent necessity, because of the active role it plays in supporting national and global efforts to preserve the environment, by spreading environmental awareness, participating in afforestation campaigns, cleaning beaches, and preserving biodiversity, which contributes to improving the quality of life and achieving sustainable development.

She added that the award is keen to support environmental initiatives and encourage individuals and entities to innovate in this field, by highlighting the best volunteer practices and honoring efforts that create a positive and sustainable impact on society.

She called on community members to invest this occasion in adopting environmentally friendly behaviours, and to participate in volunteer programs concerned with preserving natural resources, stressing that protecting the earth is a shared responsibility that requires concerted efforts and work in a team spirit.

This comes in line with the UAE’s trends towards achieving environmental sustainability and enhancing society’s role in protecting natural resources for future generations, in a way that supports the process of sustainable development.
